Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) – Department Head

Role Description 

The EHS Leader will be responsible for building, integrating, and leading a robust Environment, Health & Safety ecosystem across Kimbal. This role will ensure statutory compliance, strengthen ISO management systems, champion a Zero Harm culture, and drive continuous improvement across manufacturing, offices, and project sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and sustain ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other relevant ISO management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements including Factory Act, Electricity Act & Rules, Environment Protection Act, E-waste Management Rules, and other local/state regulations.
  • Provide strategic leadership to Environmental Affairs, Design for Environment, and Safety functions—integrating them into a single, unified EHS function with a common mission.
  • Actively support and guide teams across locations to maintain and continuously improve ISO management system effectiveness.
  • Facilitate all statutory inspections, internal audits, external audits, and certification/surveillance audits; ensure timely closure of observations.
  • Track non-conformities (NCRs), implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and support Management Review Meetings.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments such as HIRA, JSA, AIA, and ensure implementation of risk mitigation measures.
  • Lead accident, near-miss, and unsafe event investigations using RCA, 5-Why, Fishbone, and similar methodologies; ensure organizational learning.
  • Develop, review, and maintain emergency preparedness plans; conduct periodic emergency drills (fire, spill, evacuation) and ensure availability of safety equipment.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for operators, engineers, contractors, and leadership teams.
  • Track, analyse, and report leading and lagging EHS KPIs to management.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Kaizen, 5S, and safety-focused projects.
  • Identify and implement best practices to reduce operational risks, improve safety awareness, and strengthen safe work behaviours.

  • Scaling EHS systems and practices in line with rapid manufacturing and business growth.
  • Integrating multiple EHS-related functions into a single, cohesive governance model.
  • Strengthening proactive risk identification and near-miss reporting culture.
  • Ensuring consistent compliance and safety practices across plants, offices, and field operations.
  • Driving leadership ownership and workforce engagement towards a sustainable Zero Harm

Success Metrics

  • Zero fatal accidents and reduction in recordable incidents.
  • Successful ISO certifications and surveillance audits with minimal observations.
  • Timely closure of NCRs and CAPAs.
  • Improved EHS KPI performance (leading and lagging indicators).
  • High levels of employee participation in safety initiatives.

Job Requirements 

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree with specialization/certification in EHS, Safety, or Environmental Management.
  • 15+ years of experience in EHS leadership roles within manufacturing, energy, or industrial environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Indian statutory regulations and ISO management systems.
  • Proven experience in audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety culture transformation.
  • Strong leadership, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.

Functional & Leadership Skills 

  • Deep hands-on expertise in ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and other applicable management systems including design, implementation, certification, and surveillance audits.
  • Strong working knowledge of Indian statutory and regulatory frameworks such as Factory Act, Electricity Act & Rules, Environment Protection Act, E-waste Management Rules, and state pollution control norms.
  • Proven experience in conducting and reviewing risk assessments including HIRA, JSA, AIA, and defining practical risk mitigation controls.
  • Strong capability in incident investigation methodologies such as RCA, 5-Why, Fishbone, and development of robust CAPA.
  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to build, integrate, and lead cross-functional EHS teams under a unified vision.
  • Demonstrated capability to influence senior leadership and drive EHS ownership across business functions.
  • High level of accountability and decision-making ability in complex and high-risk environments.
  • Excellent communication and training skills with the ability to simplify complex EHS concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Change leadership mindset with the ability to drive cultural transformation in fast-growing and dynamic organizations.
