A typical Day of Database Expert/Administrator at Kimbal includes:
Develop and document database architectures, schemas, and physical structures that align with business requirements and best practices.
Implement and maintain security measures to ensure database integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Evaluate database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to enhance database performance and efficiency.
Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data availability and minimize downtime in case of system failures or data loss.
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related problems, faults, and issues to ensure smooth and uninterrupted database operations.
Plan, install, configure, optimize, and upgrade database management system software to enhance performance and keep the database environment up to date.
Manage database replication and distribution processes to ensure data consistency and availability across multiple environments.
Performs capacity planning of server environments and provides recommendations to management to sustain business growth.
Provide technical support offering guidance and expertise on database-related
Leverage expertise in relational (preferably MS Sql Server) and NoSql (preferably
Cassandra) to manage and optimize databases in both public cloud and on-prem
Utilize T-SQL skills to develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions to meet performance and functional requirements.
Current major challenges for the potential hire to resolve is:
Performance optimisation due to high transactional system
Implement changes without/minimal downtime.
Resolve timeout effectively and permanent fix.
Resolve with minimal time related to database Availability to meet RPO/RTO
Resolve corrupt databases
Review Code changes before pushing in production to avoid performance hit or application issue.
Resolve blocking/deadlock
Identify application slowness due to DB response.
Monitor slow queries and identify root cause
Kimbal desires the Database Expert/Administrator to have:
6+ years of experience in relational (preferable MS Sql Server) and NoSql (preferably
Cassandra) databases in multi-cloud environments like Azure, and AWS in enterprise settings
Engineering degree or equivalent in relevant discipline
SQL development (T-SQL) skills are strongly desired
Strong track record of evaluating database performance, isolating performance bottlenecks, and implementing database optimizations in transactional settings.
Database Architecture concepts with hands-on experience regarding high availability, load balancing, and distributed computing required.
Experience managing and monitoring 24×7 Production database environments
