Kimbal Participates in Metering India 2026, Highlighting the Need to Strengthen India’s Smart Metering Ecosystem
Published on 13 October 2026
The 7th CII International Energy Conference & Exhibition, held around the theme “Transitioning with Energy Security – The New Global Order,” brought together policymakers, utilities, technology providers, and industry leaders to discuss the evolving energy landscape and the technologies and partnerships shaping a more secure and resilient energy future.
The conference provided a platform for discussions around energy security, grid flexibility, digitalisation, and the role of emerging technologies in supporting the transition towards a more responsive and efficient power system.

Kimbal was pleased to participate in the conference, contributing to discussions on how digital technologies can support the evolution of power systems.
Gopal Parikh, Senior Director of Engineering at Kimbal, joined the panel discussion “Demand Response 2.0: Leveraging Smart Meters, DT Meters and IoT for Flexible Power Systems.”
The session explored how smart meters, distribution transformer (DT) meters, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, and digital utility infrastructure can enable greater visibility and flexibility across the electricity network. Smart metering infrastructure provides utilities with access to granular and timely consumption data. When combined with other digital grid technologies, this data can support better understanding of demand patterns and enable more responsive approaches to managing electricity supply and consumption. The discussion also highlighted the importance of digital infrastructure in building power systems that can respond more effectively to changing demand, distributed energy resources, and evolving grid requirements.
At the exhibition, Deepak Pandey, CEO of Kimbal Urja Private Limited, along with the Kimbal team, engaged with delegates and industry stakeholders on the evolving role of intelligent energy management.
The discussions focused on EMS 1.0 and EMS 2.0, reflecting the shift from conventional energy monitoring and management towards more intelligent, data-driven energy decision-making.

EMS 1.0 focuses on establishing visibility into energy consumption, costs, and operational performance. With the integration of AI, advanced analytics, and predictive capabilities, EMS 2.0 takes this further by supporting organisations with areas such as, AI-driven energy management, demand forecasting, intelligent power procurement, energy analytics and data-driven energy decision-making.
These capabilities can help organisations move beyond simply monitoring energy consumption towards using data and intelligence to make more informed decisions about how energy is sourced, consumed, and managed.
The discussions at the conference reflected a broader shift in the energy sector. As electricity systems become more distributed, digital, and data-driven, technologies such as smart meters, IoT, AI, and energy management platforms are becoming increasingly relevant to how utilities and energy consumers manage the system.

For utilities, greater visibility across the network can support more responsive grid operations and demand management. For organisations, intelligent energy management can provide better visibility into consumption, costs, procurement, and energy performance. Together, these capabilities can contribute to a more flexible and data-driven energy ecosystem.
Kimbal thanks the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for bringing together the energy community and creating a platform for meaningful discussions, knowledge exchange, and collaboration.
