Kimbal Participates in IPPAI’s Future of Power Systems Conference

Kimbal participated in the Future of Power Systems conference organised by the Independent Power Producers Association of India (IPPAI) in New Delhi, bringing together policymakers, regulators, utilities, technology companies and industry experts to discuss the technologies, risks and market developments shaping India’s evolving power sector.

Representing Kimbal, Lalit Kumar, Vice President – Security, Information and Risk, and Gopinath Mishra, Senior Product Manager, joined discussions focused on the growing importance of cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection as electricity networks become increasingly digital and interconnected.

Cybersecurity in an Increasingly Connected Power System

A key focus of the discussions was the evolving cybersecurity landscape across the power sector. Conversations covered SCADA security, IT/OT security, critical infrastructure protection and supply-chain resilience, highlighting the need to strengthen security across increasingly interconnected power systems.

As technologies such as smart metering, intelligent connectivity and grid-edge solutions become an integral part of modern electricity networks, cybersecurity considerations now extend beyond individual systems. They span devices, communication networks, data infrastructure and utility operations.

The discussions provided an opportunity for Kimbal to bring its experience in energy engineering and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) to the wider conversation around building secure and resilient power infrastructure.

Technology Shaping the Future of Power Systems

The conference also explored how emerging technologies are influencing the way power systems are planned, operated and managed. Key areas of discussion included:

  • Artificial Intelligence and AI-based applications in power systems
  • Advanced load and generation forecasting
  • Digital Twins and next-generation grid technologies
  • Renewable energy integration
  • Portfolio and scheduling optimisation
  • Remote sensing and AI-based asset management
  • SCADA and IT/OT security
  • Critical infrastructure and supply-chain resilience

The discussions highlighted the convergence of technology, cybersecurity, electricity markets and regulation in shaping the future of power systems.

Bringing Industry Perspectives Together

The conference brought together perspectives from across the power and security ecosystem, creating a platform for industry leaders to exchange insights on the challenges and opportunities ahead. For Kimbal, the discussions reinforced the importance of approaching the transformation of electricity networks with both technological capability and security by design.

As India’s power infrastructure continues to become more connected, intelligent and digital, collaboration across utilities, policymakers, regulators and technology providers will remain important to building power systems that are not only efficient, but also secure and resilient. Kimbal was pleased to contribute to these conversations and engage with industry stakeholders conference.
