Kimbal Participates at Australian Energy Week – Grid-Edge Intelligence in focus
Published on 22 June 2026
Kimbal was proud to be part of the Australian Energy Week 2026, joining utilities, policymakers, technology providers, and energy leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of electricity networks.
During the event, our CEO, Ayush Sinhal, and Chief Technology Officer, Dave Lee, led a session on the topic, “From Proven Scale to Grid-Edge Intelligence: What the Field Teaches Us About Deployment, Governance, and Operating-Model Change.” Drawing on Kimbal’s experience in large-scale smart metering and digital infrastructure deployments, the discussion explored how utilities can navigate increasingly decentralised and data-driven energy systems.
Australian Energy Week brought together a broad cross-section of the energy community, creating a valuable platform to exchange ideas, share practical experiences, and engage in conversations around the priorities shaping the sector today.

Australia’s energy transition has become one of the most closely watched in the world. The rapid adoption of rooftop solar, battery storage, and distributed energy resources (DERs) is transforming the way electricity networks operate and creating new demands for visibility, flexibility, and intelligence across the grid.

As energy systems evolve, utilities are increasingly required to manage a more complex ecosystem where generation, storage, and consumption occur across multiple points in the network. These shifts are driving the need for smarter technologies, stronger data visibility, and more agile operating models.
For Kimbal, these developments were one of the key reasons Australia emerged as a strategic market for engagement and collaboration. As energy systems become increasingly decentralized, Australia offers valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities that utilities across the world are likely to face in the years ahead.
Over the past 15 years, Kimbal has helped modernize electricity distribution networks through Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), communication technology, and digital energy solutions. With more than 12.5 million smart meters deployed, Kimbal has gained extensive experience in managing large-scale utility programs and enabling data-driven decision-making across complex energy ecosystems.

A key theme of the discussion at Australian Energy Week was the growing importance of Grid-Edge Intelligence. As electricity networks become increasingly distributed, intelligence must move closer to where energy is generated and consumed. By enabling data processing, analytics, and operational decision-making at the edge of the network, utilities can improve visibility, respond faster to changing conditions, and better manage the integration of distributed energy resources.

The transition toward decentralized energy systems is reshaping utility operations worldwide. As networks accommodate greater levels of renewable energy, battery storage, electric vehicles, and consumer participation, the need for intelligent and adaptable infrastructure continues to grow.

Australian Energy Week provided an opportunity for Kimbal to contribute to these important industry conversations while sharing practical lessons from large-scale deployments and engaging with stakeholders on the technologies and operating models required for the next generation of electricity networks.
We thank the organizers, industry partners, and fellow participants for the insightful discussions and look forward to continuing our collaboration in building smarter, more resilient, and future-ready energy systems.
